As a non-profit organization operating in Nunavut, QCFC is a member of the newly-formed Nunavut Association of Non-Profit Organizations (NANPO) whose mission is to advance the interests of non-profit organizations with operations in Nunavut, increase communication between them, and address issues that collectively affect them.

NANPO is seeking its first Executive Director. This is a full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) contracted position that is permanent after a 3-month probationary period and subject to availability of funding. The salary is $90,000 plus a $15,000 northern allowance. This position is open to any applicant eligible to work in Canada but priority will be given to Nunavut Land Claims Agreement beneficiaries, those residing in Nunavut, or those with extensive experience with Nunavut's non-profit sector. NANPO is committed to building a non-profit sector that is led by Inuit. The place of work is TBD and dependent on the successful candidate's location, but working from home is expected at the beginning. The Executive Director is selected by, and responsible to, the Board of Directors of NANPO, which is composed of representatives from various non-profit organizations operating in Nunavut. The Executive Director is subject to NANPO’s by-laws, policies, and strategic decisions made by the board, and will act on behalf of the Association. The successful candidate will work as a team member and provide a high standard of services with integrity. The applicant should have extensive knowledge of non-profit activities in Nunavut and the various roles all government entities contribute. The candidate will be an active participant in enhancing member organizations’ services through collaboration and knowledge sharing. Mentorship and training from NANPO's membership will be provided to ensure the success of any candidate who accepts the position.

Scope of Position: The Executive Director is responsible for the management and operations of all activities of the Association. The responsibilities include:

  • Daily management and organization of the Association’s operations, including administration, budgeting, financial administration, program development, and implementation
  • Support for strategic development and activities related to: fundraising development, marketing and communications, grant-making, full-cycle event and project management, and non-profit leadership and outreach
  • Support to the volunteer Board of Directors including: onboarding, development, and training
  • Establishing, implementing and adhering to policies and by-laws of the Association
  • Planning, delivery and monitoring of all activities including risk management, trend analysis, and research
  • Promotion of community awareness of NANPO’s goals and objectives
  • Contractor management/project management cycle 
  • Maintenance of association’s contact database
  • Privacy and confidentiality 
  • Timely reporting to Nunavut Legal Registries (under the Societies Act), Canada Revenue Agency and funding partners

  • Political, cultural, and community awareness: monitor and anticipate needs of community 

Additional Skills 

  • Inuktitut is an asset (speaking and/or listening, reading and/or writing)

Working Conditions

  • Deal with a large volume of work under minimal supervision
  • Considerable flexibility in schedule is required
  • Working from home is expected
  • Professional Development and Training opportunities will be available to the successful candidate to help further the incubation of the Association
  • Attendance at all board and committee meetings, possibly outside regular work hours to accommodate board members
